Plant filter
What is a plant filter? I've got a lot of space in my filter sump. So i planted some fast growing plants to suck up the nitrates. Works or not, im not sure myself because the plant is not much. However its worth the effort as it looks nice. The light for the sump plant is on at night. Hopefully it can supplement some oxygen to the main tank at night. I also bought some plants for my main tank, it will be transfered to main tank when the sump plant has establised. I dun want algae growing on main tank.

Aquarium River flow
In my quest to create a better living condition for my fish. I have decided to simulate river flow in my tank as most of my fishes are from fast flowing rivers. Google is your best friend when it comes to design ideas. Although i wish i had done this before i put in the sand. Now i gotta top up the sand to cover the 1 inch pvc pipe. This time i did not bother to catch the fish out. They must be thinking what the hell is happening when the water goes murky again. The water becomes clear as i was leaving the office at 5pm. I also bought a cute little datnoid as i was buying water pump. Its just few inches in size, i hope it can adapt into my tank. Will post the pix when the tank is clear.
Accidents ....
Be extra careful when using these.

Lung fish out of water
Im in the office, saw my lung fish on the floor, feeling very sad. I pick it up, then i realize its still moving. Then i remembered, its a lung fish, it has the ability to breath out of water. In the wild, they can be out of water for months. I quickly put him back into the main tank.

Substrate for 6 footer office tank
Been debating with myself on whether to put substrate for my office tank. Pros of empty tank is ease of maintenance. With substrate, need to do more housekeeping to keep it clean. Went to Irene Aquarium during lunch time and saw few bags of white sand. Took me 5 mins to think & decided to get it. The problem of getting it now is i already have fishes in the tank. When the sand is mix with water, a lot of dirts and sediments will come out. Will show u the pictures later. Anyhow the sand cost me Rm26 per bag. I took all 5 bag left there. I was told i needed 6 bag for 6 feet tank. Well since theres no more stock, i'll have to make do with 5 bag.
My plan is to catch the existing fish and put into the filter sump. Then put in the sand & run two water hose in the main tank,
One adding water the other removing water. It takes some time, but the water gets clearer as time passes. After almost one hour i notice the water getting less and i realized i've emtied the water tank. Well, looks like the fishes gonna have to stay at the sump tonite. I made a temporary cover for the sump, pray that the black arowana wont jump tonite.
Tomorrow's a busy day, hope i can finish filling water and transfer the fishes back to the main tank. Check out the pictures of the process.

Diy aquarium cover
My silver arowana managed to jump out after just one day inside my tank. Its puzzling how it got onto the temporary cover though.
Today i diy another cover, which hopefully can prevent from future commit suicide cases by the fishes. All you need is pvc pipe, glue, cable ties & netting. Just follow the steps as below, can be done in less than an hour.
